Bolton

Kan-shi Gary Dotoshi Bolton
Master Instructor
Dotoshi sensei is one of the original members of An-Shu Stephen K. Hayes' Hombu dojo instructor team. Dotoshi holds a 5th degree black belt master instructor's license in To-Shin Do as well as a third degree black belt in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Dotoshi operated as Senior Director of Spirit Quest, a non profit organization dedicated to teaching martial arts and mind science principles to inner city and at risk youth. He is also a member of the Marishi-Kai personal protection security team which is charged with protecting well known people such as the Dalai Lama, Muhammad Ali and John Mellencamp. Mr. Bolton is certified through Wright State University in Anti-Bullying curriculums of psychology. Sensei Bolton has been awarded the warrior name Dotoshi, meaning "Warrior of the Guiding Light Blade."

Norcross  

Todd Ryotoshi Norcross
Sr. Budo Martial Arts Instructor/
Mind Science and Meditation Leader

Ryotoshi sensei began studying Uechi-Ryu Karate at the age of fourteen. He began training in Ninjutsu with Stephen K. Hayes and Mark Davis in Boston in 1988. In 1999, he moved to Ohio to be a personal student of An-Shu Hayes. He holds a SanDan in To-Shin Do and also a SanDan in Ninpo Taijutsu under Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi. He is a teacher of Meditation and Yoga. He is a member of the Marishi-Kai protector's guild and has body guarded for the Dalai Lama and Muhammad Ali and other dignitaries. He is also certified through Wright State University in Anti-Bullying curriculums of psychology. He was awarded the warrior name "Ryotoshi" which means "Warrior of the Blade of Clear Truth." Celeste Barker
Sho-Dan, Assistant Instructor
Celeste attends Miami University and became interested in Ninjutsu by watching Japanese Anime. She enjoys classes in the Bo staff and Katana. In The Dojo, she loves working with children's classes and studying the history of Japanese culture. Off the mat, she enjoys acting and horseback riding.

     
David  

David Johnson
Sho-Dan, Assistant Instructor
David spent twelve years as a Special Forces U.S Army officer serving in Desert Strom and Okinawa. He and his wife and daughters all train at The Dojo as a family. He enjoys classes with the knife and the weighted chain. Outside The Dojo he coaches Mason Youth Softball, runs full marathons and is a talented painter and artist.

Dr. Brian J. Lokai
Sho-Dan, Instructor Trainee
Dr. Lokai is a first degree black belt and began his studies in 2000 at the Dayton Quest center. He owns Suburban Veterinary Clinic in Dayton and is in charge of seven veterinary doctors. In The Dojo, Brian enjoys training in the knife and the three foot staff. He is always willing to step in and assist new people and more advanced students with his martial and life experience. Off the mat, he enjoys quality time with his wife and family. He also loves hiking and the outdoors.

     
Norfleet  

Blake Norfleet
Sho-Dan, Instructor Trainee
Blake is a parts/maintenance coordinator for Kroger Foods and serves about seventy mechanics and 110 stores throughout the greater Cincinnati area. In The Dojo, Blake enjoys classes in the knife and weighted chain. Blake has a great energy and easy going spirit in The Dojo. He loves working with the children's and youth classes and is always willing to help new students. Off the mat, he enjoys quality time with his wife and son. He also enjoys working with cars and video gaming.

     
Todd B  

Todd Beal
Sho-Dan, Instructor Trainee
Todd Beal began his training at the Dayton Quest Center in 1998. He earned a shodan under An-Shu Stephen K. Hayes. He has also earned a "Life Scout" award. He travels hours each way (from West Virginia!) just to train here at The Dojo. His dedication is inspiring. Inside the school, he enjoys working with the Bo Staff and the Japanese sword, as well as the Classical Budo classes. Outside The Dojo, Todd enjoys spending quality time with his children and mountain biking.

     
Ellis  

Mike Ellis
Sho-Dan, Instructor Trainee
Mike is a Federal Agent with the U.S Postal Inspection Service who supervises a team of fourteen and instructs agents in defense tactics and survival training. In the dojo, Mike enjoys coaching people of all ages and has a great warm-hearted professional personality. He trains several days a week and is a great family man role-model. Off the mat, Mike enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three boys (all of whom train at The Dojo.) He also enjoys home repair and outdoor activities.

Michele Ellis
Instructor Trainee
Michele is a wonderful asset to our school. She enjoys sword classes and coaching in the children's classes. She takes great care of her three boys who all train at The Dojo. Outside of her training, she is involved with activities at the Community Center and at Christ's Church in Mason. She also spends time with family activities and outdoor gardening.

     
Zane  

Zane Danes
Instructor Trainee
Zane is an experienced addition to our teaching team. He has a Shodan black belt in "Jukado". He works in Information Technology (IT) at Johnson and Johnson. Inside The Dojo, he enjoys working with kids and learning the art of the Japanese sword. Outside The Dojo, Zane enjoys golfing, spending quality time with his son and exercising.

Erich Nussbaum
Instructor Trainee
Eric is a great addition to our instructor's team. Eric enjoys the meditation classes, the classical Budo classes and working with the Japanese sword. He has a degree in management information systems and works for The Luxottica Group here in Mason. Off the mat, he is an avid reader and enjoys yoga, hiking and camping.

     
Ryan  

Ryan Stump
Instructor Trainee
Ryan is a graduate of Miami University with a Bachelors Degree in Integrated Studies. He has earned the coveted rank of "Eagle Scout". Inside The Dojo, he likes mastering edged weaponry and filming for the school videos. Outside The Dojo, Ryan is great at fixing and building computers, building models and is quite the movie aficionado.

     
Mark  

Mark Banks
Instructor Trainee
Mark has a real passion for martial arts that started at a young age. In the past he has studied Tae Kwon Do (under I.K. Kim) and Maududo karate. After high school he spent six years serving in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge from the military, Mark earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Dayton and an MBA from Xavier. Currently, Mark is a business leader at GE Aviation (certified in Lean and Six Sigma) and enjoys improving processes and solving complex problems. One thing that he is most proud of is that his entire family trains at The Dojo, you can often find them here during the week. Inside The Dojo, Mark enjoys Classical Budo and Ground Strategy classes. Mark enjoys focusing on knife tactics and the Kusari-Fundo. Outside The Dojo, Mark stays active within Grace Baptist Church, spending quality time with his family and exercising.

Jason Butler
Instructor Trainee
Jason is a Macintosh System Administrator serving Children's Hospital of Cincinnati. Inside The Dojo, Jason enjoys the classical Budo classes and is working on mastering the Bo Staff and Japanese sword. Outside The Dojo, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two daughters. Jason is an accomplished artist. He has designed several of our school T-Shirts. He is also a tea aficionado. Madison  

Madison McConkie
Jr. Instructor Trainee
Madison is a great addition to our junior coaches in the Little Dragons/Ninja classes. She is fantastic with children and is a great positive role-model for teens. She enjoys weapons training with the knife and the (Hanbo) short staff. Outside of The Dojo, Madison is active in swimming at the Four Bridges Country Club. She also enjoys softball.
