Classes at The Dojo provide participants with an opportunity to exercise, improve flexibility and gain important self-defense skills at their own pace and at a level that is right for them. The skills taught at The Dojo are very comprehensive in nature, covering a wide variety of techniques that are both practical and effective. The techniques that make up the core of our training method are based on an ancient and well-tested system of warrior disciplines handed down by nine historical Japanese lineages. At the same time, our training is built around a very modern approach to handling successfully the kinds of threats and confrontations that are most likely in our own contemporary culture. From the very first lesson, students learn methods that they can use right away, regardless of their physical condition or any prior martial arts experience.

While it is true that The Dojo offers the best self-defense instruction possible, we use the process of learning martial arts as a system for cultivating the ability to overcome any challenge in life. Certainly, self-protection and fitness are important, yet it is also true that many of us are likely to feel attacked by factors in life. These factors might include lack of focus, stress, or a general feeling of dissatisfaction. The Dojo training provides direct instruction in the skills needed to gain control over the quality of our lives.
